About Hayley

Practicing What I Teach

Hayley grew up in Orange County, California and began her dance training at the age of thirteen in the Vaganova method at Dmitri Kulev’s Classical Ballet Academy under Dmitri and Jennifer Kulev. During high school, she continued her dance training under Charles Maple, Kim Olmos, Richard and Melissa Bowman, Tanya Durbin, Steven Inskeep, Lisa Jay, Danielle Pignieri, Maud Wachter and Alicia Head. She explored various styles and modalities including ballet, pointe, tap, jazz, hip hop, lyrical, contemporary, Hawaiian, Bollywood, and African and danced in various performances such as Maple’s The Nutcracker and Cinderella. Hayley graduated from high school with honors and a dance scholarship, then went on to study Biological Sciences and Dance at Cal Poly San Luis Obispo. While in college, she danced with Cal Poly’s contemporary dance ensemble Orchesis as well as with Ballet Theatre San Luis Obispo. She worked with choreographers Diana Stanton, Christy McNeil Chand, Theresa Slobodnik, Blair London, Patricia Bart, and Michelle Walter. She performed in Cal Poly’s Vitality and Slobodnik’s Skaters, Ballet in the Vineyards, and Chopin and George Sands. Hayley attended Lines Ballet’s summer intensive and worked with Alonzo King, Maurya Kerr, Kaleena Hurlburt,  Caroline Rocher, Lei Wei Chao, Muriel Maffre, Kara Wilkes Davis, and Erik Wagner. While at Lines, she was introduced to the Gyrotonic and Gyrokinesis methods under Debra Rose. Upon graduating with honors from Cal Poly San Luis Obispo, Hayley moved to Richmond, Virginia to dance with Richmond Ballet. She worked with Judy Jacob, Cecile Tuzii, Anne Sidney Hetherington, Jasmine Grace, Susan Israel Massey, Starrene Foster, Stoner Winslett, Malcolm Burn, Jerri Kumery, and Igor Antonov where she danced in Winslett’s The Nutcracker and Windows, Balanchine’s The Four Temperaments, and Burn’s Romeo and Juliet. In a small studio in the Richmond Ballet basement, Hayley discovered her passion for Pilates while training extensively with Romana Pilates instructor Jerry Weiss. She found that Pilates not only enhanced her movement quality and fluidity, but also brought greater peace and awareness to her daily life. When her father became ill with ALS, Hayley returned back to Orange County and continued to dance with Orange County Ballet Theatre as well as nanny for two families. She worked with choreographers and instructors Anna Onipko, Jessie Riley, Monika Peltz, Krystal Matsuyama, Megan Guise, Rochone Anderson, Kristi Goldstein, Robert Raney, Larissa Saveliev, Gennadi Saveliev, Terence Marling, Jennifer Stahl, and Michele Gifford. She danced in various pieces such as Balanchine’s Serenade as the Dark Angel and Marling’s Heart Hold. While dancing with OCBT, Hayley attained her Pilates certificate at Orange Coast College under Amelie Hunter, David McMahan, Donna Place, and Shana Menakar and received the Pilates Scholarship upon graduation. Hayley also danced with California Ballet under faculty and instructors Maxine Mahon, Jared Nelson, Brik Middlekauff, Judith Sharp, Gail Wingfield, Denise Debrowski, Jenny Asseff, and Amanda Daly. Additionally, Hayley taught Pilates at ABC Pilates in association with Rausch Physical Therapy in Orange County. Hayley then got married to the love of her life and moved to San Diego where she taught at Pilates on Park with Jennifer Curry Wingrove, and Golden State Ballet and Pilates with Raul and Cindy Salamanca. In 2020, she moved to San Clemente, CA where she trained under Nina Pearlman, Robyn Shifren, Beverly Bagg, and Charla Genn, and performed in her final performance in Inland Pacific Ballet’s The Little Mermaid. Hayley now teaches Pilates from her home studio and at Club Pilates to students of all ages. She strives to provide a keen eye for alignment, a nurturing environment, and a greater mind-body connection for her students. What Hayley enjoys most from her teaching is seeing her students progress to feel better and stronger over time. Other hobbies of hers include reading, being outside in nature, and spending time with her wonderful husband and pets.
